How can we help?

Answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? A human reads every email.

How does earning work?+
Steps convert into minutes of screen time on one published curve, the same table for everyone: 5,000 steps is 13.5 minutes, 10,000 is 27, and the whole table is printed in the app so you can predict your own payout. Workouts that are not walking earn on their own scale, and finishing your daily habits earns minutes too. Your progress toward the day's goal is always visible on the Today screen.
Is my daily goal a step goal?+
No. Your goal is earned minutes, not steps or distance, so a day of walking, a workout, and a completed habit set all count toward the same number. Stepsie recommends a goal from your recent activity and keeps tuning it; Premium lets you set your own.
Does Premium make the goal easier?+
A little, and deliberately not much. Premium adds 25% to everything you earn, and since there is one number in Stepsie, that counts toward your goal and your leaderboard row as well as your bank. What it cannot do is finish a day for you: a multiplier has nothing to work on until you move, so a subscriber still walks about 80% of what anyone else walks to hit the same goal. Rewards work the same way and are deliberately small, and the Compete tab shows the split so you can always see which part of your number was walked for.
My steps aren't syncing.+
Stepsie reads steps from Apple Health. Check Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Stepsie and make sure step reading is allowed. Carrying your iPhone (or pairing an Apple Watch) is what generates the step data. Stepsie can't count what Health doesn't see.
The shield isn't appearing on my blocked apps.+
Shielding uses Apple's Screen Time technology, which needs one-time permission. If Stepsie never got it, the app opens on a full-screen Screen Time Is Off notice with a Turn on Screen Time button. iOS only ever asks once, so if you declined it back then, switch it on by hand at iOS Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access → Stepsie. With permission granted, open the Me tab and tap Rebuild App Shieldsto re-register the vault. If a single app still says "Restricted" after you took it out of your vault, Me → Fix a Stuck App clears every restriction Stepsie has ever set on that iPhone. Your app picks themselves live in Me → Blocklist Manager.
Do my banked minutes expire at midnight?+
Never. Your Time Bank rolls over and nothing decays. It holds up to 24 hours, and once it is full you can Immortalize a full unspent day into a permanent Level on your profile. Bank all week, spend it guilt-free on the couch Saturday.
How do streaks and protection work?+
Hit your goal, keep the streak. A Streak Shield armed the night before saves the day you miss; a streak repair patches a day after the fact, and Premium includes one every month. Rest days soften the goal instead of breaking the chain. Stepsie rewards effort. It never shames a rest day.
Does Stepsie work without a connection?+
Yes, apart from the one step that cannot: creating your account needs a connection once. After that Stepsie runs with no signal for as long as you like. Steps and workouts still earn, habits still pay, sessions and shields still work, your bank still spends and your streak still counts — your phone does that arithmetic itself, and rolls the day over at your own midnight. A weekend off-grid costs you nothing.

What pauses is the part that genuinely needs other people: leaderboards, friends, the activity feed, and sending cheers or gifts. Stepsie says it is offline rather than pretending those are broken. Everything you walked, spent and earned syncs to your account the moment you are back — up to a month of it — so nothing is lost in the meantime.
Do I need an account?+
Yes. Your streak, your bank, your goal and your history live on your account rather than on one phone, which is what lets you change devices, recover from a lost handset, and appear on the leaderboard at all. Signing up takes a few seconds with Apple, Google, or an email address.

It is also the only part of Stepsie that needs to be online — see above. And because the account is the real thing and the phone holds a copy, signing out clears that copy: sign back in and your progress comes with you. Your locked-app list is the one exception, because iOS does not let an app carry that between installs, so you re-pick it once.
How do I add friends to the leaderboard?+
Share your 6-character friend code from the Compete tab, or enter a friend's code there. The leaderboard celebrates time earned and not spent. The flex is the unspent minutes.
Can Stepsie see which apps I block, or what I do in them?+
No, and we couldn't change that if we wanted to. Apple's Screen Time technology keeps your app selections as opaque tokens that never leave your device. Details in our Privacy Policy.
How do refunds work?+
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so refunds go through them: reportaproblem.apple.com. You can cancel anytime in your App Store subscription settings.
How do I delete my account and data?+
In the app: Me → Account & Support → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and synced data from our servers within 30 days. No app access? Email hello@stepsie.app from your account email and we'll handle it.
